The APSET was conducted for the first time in 2012 in 24 subjects and only 11,073 candidates were qualified out of 1,17, 797 who registered. On the basis of the performance evaluation report of the expert committee, the UGC accredited OU for 2013, 2014 and 2015 years also. The 2013 test was conducted in 27 subjects in November last in 12 Regional centres of Andhra Pradesh in which 6,267 candidates were declared qualified out of 1,26,808 registered.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has granted the accreditation to conduct the APSET to Osmania University (OU) till 2015 after a thorough scrutiny to maintain high standards expected of the test. The APSET is equivalent to the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the UGC.
